Michael Nikowitz

Michael Nikowitz is coordinator for automated driving at the Austrian Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology.

Michael Nikowitz holds a Master of Science in Engineering in Mechatronics and Robotics as well as Laser Engineering from the University of Applied Sciences – Technikum Vienna.

For several years he worked in the automotive industry as a Robotics Engineer as well as a Laser Scientist specializing on ultrashort pulse laser systems. Michael also worked at the Austrian Association for Advanced Propulsion Systems (A3PS) in the field of alternative drive trains, representing Austria at the International Energy Agency and developing roadmaps for eco-mobility and automated driving. Since 2016 he is tasked with the coordination and strategic development of the Federal Ministry of Climate Action’s initiatives in automated mobility. Currently he is working on a strategic alliance on automated mobility in Austria as well as the establishment of a legal framework for L4-vehicles.

Michael has published several papers and books on the successful implementation of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles, Automated Mobility solutions as well as scientific textbooks for children.
